Give An Author A Piece Of Your Mind

Have you ever read a book and said,
"Oh, I wish the author had done this, or not done that?"
Maybe you wanted to give the author a piece of your mind?
Yeah, I know you have.
Well, here is your chance. Sort of.
You know I've been working on my first draft - see sidebar status report - and I am at a place where I am deciding about POV. And despite the knot in my stomach, I'm asking for input. That's right. This is your chance to tell an author what you want to read. Do you like one POV throughout the entire book or do you like switching between the POV of the two main characters? Of course, I've already written the rough draft alternating every chapter, from her, then his perspective. And I'd like to keep it that way so I don't have to scrap half the book. But I am taking the time to rewrite a few things and I don't want to overlook something this important.
I'd love your comments, input, opinions, complaints (literary ones, that is).
Of course, I retain the right to choose the POV I think works best for the story - but right now I'd love a little help from my friends.

I LOVE switching POVs. Love them. You just have to be careful that we don't know TOO much. I started one that switched and I changed it. I've tried to make it work for six months. When I finally switched it back, the pieces started to fall together.
Good Luck with it!

I can see it going either way. I think in a romance "they" like having both points of few. Not sure if that's a hard and fast rule. Jolene's comment was good...to make sure not too much is revealed

Yes, you know I have wanted to give several authors a piece of my mind! I really like switching POVs. I think that's the only thing that made Breaking Dawn enjoyable--switching to Jacob's POV. My vote is yes! I think you should trust your instinct, and do what you originally had planned. Can't wait to read it!!

OK, so I'm probably going to be no help here.

I've read books that switched POV and really enjoyed them, but I also appreciate sticking to one character's POV and the connection with that character that allows.

I guess all I can say is go with whatever is most effective for you as an author and also what feels truest to your characters needs.

Thank you so much for your feedback. I'm feeling more confident about two main characters.

I say ditto. I like both and both can work. What ever works for the book. In changing POV don't feel it has to be equal time and equal space I have seen a lot of styles work but alternating chapters sounds nice.

Yes. Charlotte Bronte Villette. Bah! Great book until I got to the end - it still haunts me. If I ever finish Bound, maybe I will re-write the end so I can forget about it.

I vote two POV especially since, if I remember correctly, you have two story lines that are interwoven. Can't wait to read it!

I love switching POV's as well. :) Especially if there is romance involved. Thought I'd comment, since I just stumbled onto your blog!
