It's About Time

Well, not really - this post is about Creativity. I've been thinking about it and talking about it and it's about time I sat down and started it. Started what? My series on creativity. I am fascinated by creative people and the creative process. I'm convinced all of us have an inner artist and so many of the myths surrounding creativity -are just that- myths. I came across this article a while ago and loved the research. Here is a little of what Epstein had to say:

The very good news is that, with the right skills, you can boost your own creative output by a factor of 10 or more. Significant creativity is within everyone's reach--no exceptions. What's more, greater creativity breeds greater happiness. The creative process is itself a source of joy for most people. And with new creative powers we're also better able to solve the little problems that beset us daily.
~"Capturing creativity" By Robert Epstein, published on July 01, 1996

Did you catch that? 'Creativity is within every one's reach - no exceptions' In the words of my four-year-old, that totally rocks! And who couldn't use another source of joy in their life or extra help solving problems? I'm so excited about it that I decided I wanted to do a series. Mark your calendar (I usually post on Tuesdays), become a follower and stop by for upcoming blog posts. I'll be exploring each of the suggestions Epstein has to boost creativity, sharing interviews of some of the really cool, creative people I know. And I might even have a contest before I'm done.

And just for fun - let's get creative. Leave a comment with at least one sentence about the two pictures in this post.

My take on creativity: God is the creator of all, including us. He created us in his image and likeness so that confirms to me what Epstein says about creativity bringing joy. I think it brings joy because it is inherent in our nature to create. I love creating. So now for the creative part... Um, I having some difficulty here. Guess I'll have to check back on ways to boost my creativity. Here's what I've got: On the shelves in time for Christmas are time pieces of all shapes and sizes. I think the pink and white running shoe replica for her steals the show.

Nice post and blog. I agree, both creativity and talent are things we may be born with varying degrees of, but to sit back and say "I'm not creative" or "I'm not talented" is a cop-out. We are usually comparing ourselves to someone else when we think these things, and comparison is pride. We are as creative and talented as we are willing to work for.

My first thought when I saw the shoes was:

Egads! Two matching shoes together at the same time.

That's some kind of miracle at my house.

My first thought was I need to go excersize. I think I'm feeling a little guilty.

"What's more, greater creativity breeds greater happiness."

I LOVE that part of the quote. I've found if I don't do something creative during the day I'm grouchy.

Thanks for the post!

The timepeice is stunning and the running shoes would actually be stunned if I used them for their intended purpose!

I love that quote. I love the idea that I can reach a higher level of creativity. I've been feeling rather plain of late!

Those shoes made me feel slightly guilty. I pressed snooze this morning, then didn't get up the second time either. So I missed my morning exercise. Tomorrow those shoes will get worn!
